Palm Beach Post journalist Cynthia Roldan is reporting about a Lake Park individual charged with assault for fear that his girlfriend was trying to curse him using folk magic.
After he was taken into custody, Hugee said his girlfriend’s godmother is a “Root Lady” and that he went to her home because of the possibility that his girlfriend was trying to “cast a spell on him,” the affidavit stated.
Root working, also known as hoodoo or conjure, is a form of predominantly African-American traditional folk magic that developed from the syncretism of a number of separate cultures and magical traditions. It incorporates practices from African and Native American traditions, as well as some European magical practices and grimoires.
